50-cent Burger Fly-in, 22 Sep 2007

Well, the General Aviation folks have their "Hundred Dollar Hamburger" flights, so I guess we can spend a few bits for some flying and food also.

Saturday, 22 Sep 2007, was our first chapter picnic (or so I'm told). Weather was iffy, as you'll see in the pictures below, particularly those with a rain drop on the lens. We arrived at the field and worked up an appetite by doing some clean-up which rain had cut short earlier in the week. Anyway, some pix of us, our filed, our shack, and our defunct water pump.

Clean-up over and picnic supplies unloaded, we got the planes out while the grill warmed up ... We got in a little flying before the 1st squall came thru. Todd Reynolds has one eye on the sky and the other on Don Beale's efforts to get his plane ready. We hid under our leaky roof until it blew over and then ate.

Back on the flight line .... Steve Yaccarino takes out his new Nexstar ... Jim Davis fires up his Ultrastick ... With all eyes on another dark cloud coming in ...

With that cloud gone, 'Van' Van Dorpe takes his Carl Goldberg Edge 540 up for a workout ... Steve Yaccarino is spotting for him. Low fuel and a looming cloud brings him in. Fuel tank is filled, cloud heads northeast and van is off again, this time with Jim Davis spotting.

And, that's it - a nice afternoon weather and reluctant aircraft aside. Apologies for the pictures, I got a lot of blurs ... You'll note comments about a broken pump, leaky roof, etc -- see the maintenance day article !!
